OpenSoon

Regions / East of England · England

New food businesses in the East of England, listed for your sales team every Monday.

OpenSoon is a weekly B2B list of every restaurant, café, takeaway, pub and hotel that registers, opens or closes in the East of England, taken from the council food registers. Suppliers and sales teams get it every Monday as CSV and Excel, with each venue's stage, Companies House match and business contacts where found, for £99 a month.

The East of England sits between London's commuter belt and some of England's most rural counties. Openings cluster in the growing towns: Cambridge, Peterborough, Chelmsford, Luton and Bedford. The FSA calls the region East Counties, and we read every register in it.

Covers Cambridge, Norwich, Peterborough, Chelmsford, Colchester, Ipswich, Luton, Southend-on-Sea and every other council area in the East of England.

The East of England market

Hertfordshire and south Essex behave like outer London: dense high streets, many takeaways and a quick turnover of cafés. Cambridge adds restaurants and coffee shops serving its university and science parks, and Norwich has the region's strongest independent scene outside it.

Norfolk and Suffolk have a coastal season of their own (Southwold, Aldeburgh, Cromer, the Broads), plus a large number of village pubs, where a change of tenant shows up as a new registration.

Registers and fields

Most of the region is two-tier, so food registers are kept by the district councils of Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire: well over 30 of them. Peterborough, Luton, Southend, Thurrock and the Bedfordshire unitaries publish their own.

Scheme: Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS): ratings from 0 to 5.

Questions

How do I get a list of new restaurants opening in the East of England?

Subscribe to the East of England feed for £99 a month. Every Monday you get that week's newly registered, newly opened and closed food businesses in the East of England as CSV and Excel, plus a private web page with past weeks. Venues register with the council 28 days before trading, so many are on the list before they open. A free sample is available first.

Why does the FSA call this region 'East Counties'?

That's the FSA's own name for the region in its data. It covers the same counties as the ONS East of England region, and we use the ONS name on the site and in the files.

Are village pubs included?

Yes. Pubs, bars and nightclubs that register as food businesses are included, and a new tenant at an existing pub appears as a new registration with a note of the previous business at the address.
