OpenSoon

Regions / South East · England

Sell to every new restaurant, pub and café in the South East, from Kent to Oxfordshire.

OpenSoon is a weekly B2B list of every restaurant, café, takeaway, pub and hotel that registers, opens or closes in the South East, taken from the council food registers. Suppliers and sales teams get it every Monday as CSV and Excel, with each venue's stage, Companies House match and business contacts where found, for £99 a month.

The South East is England's largest region outside London by population, and its openings are spread thinly over a lot of councils. One week the busiest place is Brighton, the next it's Milton Keynes or a market town in Surrey. We read every district and unitary register so you don't have to.

Covers Brighton and Hove, Southampton, Portsmouth, Oxford, Reading, Milton Keynes, Canterbury, Guildford and every other council area in the South East.

The South East market

Coastal towns (Brighton and Hove, Portsmouth, Southampton, Margate, Hastings) mix year-round venues with seasonal cafés and kiosks. University cities such as Oxford, Reading and Canterbury add a steady stream of casual dining and coffee shops.

Commuter towns along the M25 and the main rail lines see many cafés and takeaways open and close, and the pub trade is significant across the Weald, the Chilterns and the Downs. Pub changes of hands often show up as a new registration under a new operator rather than a closure.

Registers and fields

Two-tier areas such as Kent, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire and Oxfordshire keep food registers at district level, so the region has far more registers than its size suggests. Unitary councils such as Brighton and Hove, Southampton and Medway run their own.

Scheme: Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS): ratings from 0 to 5.

Who uses the South East feed

  • Drinks & coffee suppliers

Pubs and coffee shops make up a large share of new venues in the region's market towns.

  • Energy brokers

A change of pub operator is a new energy contract, and the record says who was at the address before.

  • Food & drink wholesalers

Delivery routes cover several districts, and council and postcode let you plan a new venue onto an existing run.

Questions

How do I get a list of new restaurants opening in the South East?

Subscribe to the South East feed for £99 a month. Every Monday you get that week's newly registered, newly opened and closed food businesses in the South East as CSV and Excel, plus a private web page with past weeks. Venues register with the council 28 days before trading, so many are on the list before they open. A free sample is available first.

Which councils are covered in the South East?

Every district, borough and unitary council in the FSA's South East region publishes its register, and we read all of them daily. The live figures below show how many registers we hold for the region and how many updated in the last 14 days.

Do pub changes of ownership show up?

When a new operator registers the pub, it appears as a new registration, and the record notes that another food business was registered at the same address. A closure is listed only once the old registration has left the register.
