OpenSoon

Regions / Wales

Every new café, pub and restaurant in Wales, from Cardiff to Anglesey, in one weekly list.

OpenSoon is a weekly B2B list of every restaurant, café, takeaway, pub and hotel that registers, opens or closes in Wales, taken from the council food registers. Suppliers and sales teams get it every Monday as CSV and Excel, with each venue's stage, Companies House match and business contacts where found, for £99 a month.

Wales has 22 councils, and every one of them publishes its food register to the FSA. In Wales, hygiene ratings must be displayed by law, so the moment a new venue gets its first rating is a public milestone. We use that rating to mark the venue as open.

Covers Cardiff, Swansea, Newport, Wrexham, Bangor, Aberystwyth, Llandudno, Tenby and every other council area in Wales.

The Wales market

Cardiff leads the country, with openings in the city centre arcades, Cathays and Cardiff Bay. Swansea, Newport and Wrexham follow, and the valleys towns add takeaways, cafés and social clubs.

In Pembrokeshire, Gwynedd, Anglesey and Conwy, coastal cafés, pubs and guest houses open ahead of the summer season, and Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons add visitor venues inland.

Questions

How do I get a list of new restaurants opening in Wales?

Subscribe to the Wales feed for £99 a month. Every Monday you get that week's newly registered, newly opened and closed food businesses in Wales as CSV and Excel, plus a private web page with past weeks. Venues register with the council 28 days before trading, so many are on the list before they open. A free sample is available first.

Do Welsh records have the same fields as England?

Almost. Wales has crime level, flood zone (from Natural Resources Wales) and energy certificates. Heritage data comes from Historic England, so it covers England only.

Does the Welsh rating law change anything?

Displaying ratings is compulsory in Wales, but the register works the same way. A venue appears when the council registers it and is marked open when its first rating is published.
